St. Joseph the Husband of Mary Chapel
In 2017, Mrs. Sally Demawalo, former Movimiento Laical Amigoniano (MLA) president and wife of the former Councilor of Talisay, coordinated with the Barangay officials to solicit a lot for building the Chapel. Mrs. Sally then gathered signatures of the people from purok Tumpok and of the sisters for this purpose.Sadly, she had a stroke, so this project was set aside.
There was a time that the Parish needed representative in each chapel, the sisters sent Mrs. Sally Adorias and Mrs. Editha Baynosa, members of MLA to represent Purok Tumpok. They become the chapel leader and was very committed in the responsibility they hold.
When the new Parish Priest came in 2024, he didn’t want to celebrate Mass on the street or in basketball court because of the many passersby and doesn’t want the Mass to be interrupted. The Masses held in the area was very limited. This motivated the MLA members to pursue the construction of the Chapel. People were longing to have Mass as least once a month.
The permit where to build the chapel was given by the Barangay captain last year; the location is an empty lot facing the sea where the youth used to play volleyball. At first, due to lack of resources, they even thought of building it out of bamboo. Indeed, they built a tent made of bamboo. Regular Saturday catechesis and once a Holy Mass was held there.
But then, they really wanted to pursue their dream of having a concrete chapel, so they approached the barangay captain for financial assistance, who in turn promised to help them. When they consulted the Parish Priest, he doubted since LGUs are not funding such projects. Last September 11, 2025, they asked the Parish Priest to sign the letter and submitted it to the mayor,, as the Barangay Captain suggested. It was submitted to the office of the charity works of the Mayor of Talisay Rowena Lopez Lizares called “Angel’s Wings”. They followed up last December 2025, where they were asked to submit the budget proposal signed by the Brgy. Captain which they only submitted last February 2026. Last April 22, 2026, they followed up again since there was no response and “Flores de Mayo” was approaching. They were told that they could only provide the materials, but they hoped to do “bayanihan”. But they thought this was no longer practiced; no one would do it without pay.
They approached the Brgy. Captain again for help; he told them to have a meeting with the MLA, but despite the meeting, there was no response; the month of May came, and they held the “Flores de Mayo” in the Bamboo tent. They posted all the activities they were doing with the children on Facebook. In June 2026, the Captain said the material was already ready, but then it was delayed again.
In the second week of June, the materials were delivered, and they started building the chapel. But there was a group of people from the LGU who claimed that they were the ones who processed everything in the Mayor’s charity office for the realization of the said project. When the MLA heard about the comment, they felt sad, but they just shook it off and focused on their goal of building the Chapel. The sisters were their listening ears and source of encouragement every time they needed support.
They Amigonians were told that the Mayor would turn over the Chapel to the MLA. They set a date for the turnover ceremony and the blessing of the Chapel. They spent their time following up with the Parish priest and the Mayor for the schedule, but it was so complicated.
Finally, on July 27, 2026, the turnover and the blessing were held. The Mayor of Talisay was present with all the local officials who claimed to be the protagonists of the project and the Parish priest. The sisters’ encouragement and presence were also acknowledged. After the cutting of ribbon and the turn’over of the key, the MLA president, Mrs. Sally Adorias, gave her speech expressing gratitude for all that has been done and experienced.
Since then, the novices and the sisters have been gathering the children for catechesis in the Chapel, and sometimes the meetings of the MLA are held there. A monthly Mass would also be celebrated in this Chapel.
